Redesigned Softail Frame
The Sport Glide is built on the totally redesigned Softail frame, and the Sport Glide’s astonishing performance wouldn’t be possible without this modern engineering marvel. Harley-Davidson designers took the welding torch to one of the company’s most iconic frames, and the result is truly spectacular. It’s now 34% stiffer than previous versions, and many bikes in the Softail line average a 30 pound weight loss. (Because the Sport Glide is a brand new model, there’s nothing to compare it to. Suffice it to say, it’s a lean, mean, riding machine.)
This lighter and stiffer frame is augmented by an all-new suspension system, too. In the back, you’ll find a hidden rear monoshock system that accommodates 450 lbs of hands-free pre-load adjustment. Up front, the Showa SDBV racing-style, linear damping cartridge forks offer 130mm of travel.
Milwaukee-Eight Engine
Powering the Sport Glide down the road is a new version of the Milwaukee-Eight engine that tears up pavement like you’ve never seen. This dual-cooled, electronically fuel injected V-Twin offers an impressive set of improvements on previous Softail engines. It’s 10% faster from 0-60mph and 16% faster on 60-80 mph acceleration. It also comes with a slimmer profile that’s designed to fit perfectly within the new Softail frame. That leads to a more comfortable ride and helps to lower the bike’s center of gravity, meaning better all-around handling. This engine is the latest legendary addition to the line of iconic Harley-Davidson engines.
Versatile Riding Style
Most bikes get stuck in a rut of one type of riding style or another, but the Sport Glide pushes the envelope by offering features suited for many types of riding. Although it’s lighter and more agile than most other touring bikes, it offers hard-side locking saddlebags to give you cargo storage for long trips. The Milwaukee-Eight engine is counterbalanced to minimize vibration, and there’s also a mini-fairing system that helps to make for more comfortable long distance rides. All of that also makes the Sport Glide perfectly suited for commuting, too. The fairing and the saddlebags also snap off the Sport Glide so you can have a slick, custom cruiser when you want to ride in style.
