5 Best Motorcycle Maintenance Tasks

5 Best Motorcycle Maintenance Tasks

A motorcycle has many moving parts. Each of those parts requires its own maintenance, so you can remain on the road safely. Like other vehicles on the road, motorcycles require unique maintenance.

Pfaff Harley-Davidson has put together this page to cover some of the top motorcycle maintenance tasks. Drivers across Richmond Hill, Markham, and Vaughan, Ontario, can visit our service department to have all of these maintenance services completed.

Oil Change

Routine oil changes keep your motorcycle’s engine running smoothly. Your motorcycle’s maintenance manual will tell you how often your bike needs an oil change, but on average, it will be every few thousand miles.

Like with a vehicle, oil in your motorcycle’s engine keeps all the parts moving properly and prevents the bike from overheating.

Check Brake Fluid Levels

In order for your brakes to work properly, it needs brake fluid. The right amount will help your motorcycle stop the way it should. When your brake fluid is checked and replaced, if it’s low, it is also a good time to check your motorcycle’s brake pads.

Brake fluid, on average, needs to be changed every one to two years for peak performance.

Maintain Tire Pressure and Tread Depth

Proper tire pressure and tread depth are key to a safe and well-performing motorcycle. You can check your tire pressure on your own or bring it into our service department. You’ll need to use an air pressure gauge to tell how much air is in your tires.

A tire tread that’s the correct depth will help your motorcycle stop and move the way it should. When treads get too low, your tires need to be replaced. Most motorcycle tires have a knob indicator within the tire tread to let you know when it’s time for a replacement.

Change the Air Filter

When you drive, the air filter keeps dirt and debris out of your engine. After a while, the filter will get clogged or dirty. To keep your bike performing well, it needs to be replaced, so it can continue to filter properly.

Some motorcycles have air filters that be difficult to access. You may need to remove the engine or other parts to access and replace it. Trust our team to replace your air filter properly and put your motorcycle back together.

Check Your Motorcycle’s Battery

Like a vehicle, a motorcycle has a battery that helps it start and continue to run. Motorcycle batteries require maintenance, such as:

  • Checking electrolyte levels
  • Checking battle cables
  • Replace battery caps
  • Keep terminals and connectors clean

Bring your motorcycle into our service department to ensure your battery is functioning as it should. Our team will check your battery over and has the correct tools and safety equipment to service it. We can even replace your battery if needed.
